i think ati is jealous of the 6600gt/7600gt sales figures

The card is codenamed Gemini and supports the PCIe interface only. It is built on 8-layer PCB and supports both ATX and BTX formats. The card will have two RV570XT chips clocked at a saucy 650MHz core and 1500MHz memory.

It uses 256-bit GDDR 3 in 8MX32 136 BGA 900MHz package. If we read the spec correctly the memory on this card should overclock even higher.
if that memory speed and width holds, it'll have more memory bandwidth than an X1900XT

ATI''s bottom-midrange cards are never monsters are they?? They usually get manhandled by the NVIdia cards don't they??

From the looks of it, it won't fit in my Crossfire rig. Price might be an issue with this considering the GDDR, 2 GPU's, Bridge Chip & the extra cost on the PCB. I would like to see ATI create a low or mid range GPU that is actually capable of beating the nVidia equivalent with just 1 GPU though.

We could see a 7650GX2 come out with 2 7600GT GPU's but I wouldn't put any money on it.

However, from the specs it does look like a nice card, if the price & performance is right.

Interestiing how they use 1 long board, rather than 2 separate board's paired

Oh, I cant resist this bit....Ahem..... when is ATI going to come out with something original?

Especially since it comes from theINQ :)

Oh wait...

This is from dailytech: Gemini

So it isn't only from the INQ. That being said I do take what the INQ says with a big salt block.

i mean, cramming 2 GPUs together had NEVER EVER been done before nvidia did it with the GX2.

hell, ati did it before nvidia did!

for single gpu boards i'm guessing the same ram. 256 bit for mid-range cards will be a good jump. if RV570 is basically 2x X1600s and uses the clocks the inq reports it should wipe the floor with the 7600GT. it'd be close to X1900GT performance.

yes, the board will probably need to have another layer or two (and thus be slightly more expensive) for the 256 bit memory.

that is a gemini RV530 - X1600 board. who knows whether the RV570 will be the same.

How much is this thing going to cost? I dont see dual GPU's and a 256bit memory interface getting down to $150 prices anytime soon like the 7600gt's are. I think it'll PROBABLY end up being priced around $200 - pretty much where the x1800xt is (as long as the x1800xt supply holds up). a x1800xt should be faster than this thing, too

don't focus on just the gemini solution. the SINGLE gpu solution should still have a 256 bit memory interface (if the 256 bit number isn't pulled out of fuad's ass). if all those numbers in the article are true and equally applicable to single gpu versions, and my speculation that it'll be an 8 pipe part (basically 2x x1600), this will be way faster in single gpu setup than a 7600GT and could nip at the heels of 7900GT. nvidia *may* have a new mid-range card out later this year, and ati would want to aim for that (cuz they kinda missed with the 1600).

ati will probably kill 1800 production soon, if they haven't already. RV570 will be 80 nm, which means better yields.

Latest rumor is the rv570 will be a 36/12 configuration, and the rv560 is a 24/8 design. They only need the rv560 to be competitive with the 7600gt, and price it at under $200. The rv570, I'm guessing, is the replacement for the x1800xt and the x1900gt, except on a smaller process and most likely using a separate ASIC, instead of disabling quads on the r580.

Nvidia bought out 3dfx who did it 1st, so Nvidia/3dfx did it 1st.....However forgot about the Fury max laughing......

My comment stands, when will ATI bring out something original!

I guess the 7600GTX/7700 series? might come out to combat the RV560. (Since the G73 is a 4 quad design according to the new rivatuner)

Since ATi is releasing R580+(or X1950XT?), the RV570 is probably the new X1900XL (or X1950XL?). Looks great and i cant wait til what the performance of this GPU will be.

But then, i keep hearing the G80 will launch around september and october so i guess the rest of the 7 series will start to fall in price to create a gap for the $599 mark. (Im also thinking that NV needs to sell as may G71 cores, hence instead of creating a new core for maybe a 32 pipe monster, they instead went for a dual GPU based card i.e the 7950GX2).

I just hope ATi doesnt screw up for the mid range market.

i'm guessing RV570 will go by the x1700 xt name

x600 to x700 last time around.

this is likely to be the mid range part that ATi has around for holiday 2006. i'd guess that nvidia will have a new mid range part out by then, but then again the 6600GT lasted forever (and we got the holiday special 6800GS)

36/12 would probably need 256 bit wide memory to keep it pumped. at the speeds fuad is quoting it'd probably just squeak by the 7900GT where the 1900GT is losing.

based on that information i'm revising my speculation, and giving the RV570 the X1900XL marketing name. RV560 would then be X1700.

actually, it was the V5500 and V6000. the V3 was single chip in all incarnations. prior to the V5 there was the quantum 3d obsidian boards using voodoo and voodoo 2 chips.
hey look, they've got two boards in a single slot too!

oh ok then. i had first hand experiance with the voodoo 5 5500 but i never saw V3. i just read it was equal to 2 V1 in SLI (scan line thingy not the new sli)

i hope they increase the number of tmus and rops in the rv570.Cause that along with the 128-bit bus killed the x1600 xt in terms of performance.

Knowing ATi they'll probably cripple/reduce the pipes somehow so it won't perform that well even at those high clock speeds. :(

they weren't always so bad.Like the x800 gt,gto and gto2 series were awesome. And a lot were sold. But all the recent offerings were pretty much crap.Though the x1600 xt did give the 6600 gt a run for its money.Likewise with the x1800 gto and the 7600 gt.
