Rut Roh, weird noise from the computer

My dads computer started making a weird noise. I haven't had time to head home and open it up but my mother desriced it as a high pitch noise similar to that of a dremel but not as loud. To me this sounds like a bearing is going bad on the HD. I would say it was a fan but my dad says it stops when the system goes into suspend mode. If it does turn out to be the HD should he stop use and send it in for repairs immediately?

I would get everything of importance off the drive ASAP.
Then he can wait for you to get home, if it's a bad drive it'll still be bad when you get there, or you can check out what else might be an issue.

I would say to get all important info off the PC, then stop using it until you can check it out.
