Does the phone use the Glonas network for voice and data as it appears to? If so I can only guess how much the monthly cost will be. Can you imagine having to pay $100 to download a porno video? :eek:

Its not meant to compete with iPhone, the goal is to be completely independent from US-controlled GPS system. I won't be surprised if future iPhones and Android phones would have both GPS and GLONASS capability for non-US iPhone markets.

OK, so the phone does not communicate with the Glonass sats but only uses them for the GPS fix-- makes more sense as GPS sats don't actually communicate, bi-directionally that is, with the handsets.

not sure what the big deal is, its not like manipulation of the gps system would benefit the us in any way.... its only useful if its accurate.

unless the russians plan on knocking out the us gps system someday.... then yeah you better get your own people on their own system .
