So I freely admit that this is a weird thread for ATOT, but I couldn't think of a better place for it. I'm looking for a geography book--not on Russia--but made by a Russian press and a Russian author. Or something like that. I need to get an idea of how it compares to, say, a western-produced textbook. Any ideas? Amazon, ebay, google were no help.

ozon.ru would be my guess. But... how are you going to read it? Can you read Russian?

if you live near a large city, the bigger the better, see if they have a part of the city where there is a concentration of Russian immigrants/descendants, they might have a B&M shop/book store where you could ask about it

If you live near a major metropolitan city, you can try going to a local Russian bookstore. You should be able to find what you need there.

No, I do not read Russian, but that's what google translate is for right ;)? I want it mostly for the maps. Want to see what type of projection they use, among other things.

Edit: checked out that site, and I'll spend some more time on it but it seems like they have mostly textbooks by Western presses. I wonder if it would serve me better to try to find a specifically Russian press, then go from there.

Thanks for the idea FoBot and thebomb. Nearest one is OKC; I'll give it a try next time I'm down there. Be nice if I could get it online, though.

are you hoping for a different version than the western version provides? such like history is told differently depending on what side you're on?

Uhmm... not sure what you are talking about in terms of 'western press' :) Ozon.ru serves thousands of Russian books, among them tons of geography-related books, both independently authored and produced by ministry of education.

If all you need is political maps then you need to search for Атлас or Политическая карта мира (World political map). If you are indeed after Geography books, then you need to tell me what exactly you are looking for, since there's hundreds of them. What audience? What part of the world? What type (geology, political-administrative, climate, etc).
