I was surprised that US Gov actually publishes something like this on their official website. I would normally see these claims on news websites. It's not that I think these claims are false, but on the contrary I believe the narrative of propaganda on Russia's side about Ukraine is 100% true and well thought out by the former KGB agent president Putin.

“No amount of propaganda can make right something that the world knows is wrong.”
– President Obama, March 26

Russia continues to spin a false and dangerous narrative to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine. The Russian propaganda machine continues to promote hate speech and incite violence by creating a false threat in Ukraine that does not exist. We would not be seeing the violence and sad events that we've witnessed this weekend without this relentless stream of disinformation and Russian provocateurs fostering unrest in eastern Ukraine. Here are 10 more false claims Russia is using to justify intervention in Ukraine, with the facts that these assertions ignore or distort.

1. Russia Claims: Russian agents are not active in Ukraine.

Fact: The Ukrainian Government has arrested more than a dozen suspected Russian intelligence agents in recent weeks, many of whom were armed at the time of arrest. In the first week of April 2014, the Government of Ukraine had information that Russian GRU officers were providing individuals in Kharkiv and Donetsk with advice and instructions on conducting protests, capturing and holding government buildings, seizing weapons from the government buildings’ armories, and redeploying for other violent actions. On April 12, armed pro-Russian militants seized government buildings in a coordinated and professional operation conducted in six cities in eastern Ukraine. Many were outfitted in bullet-proof vests, camouflage uniforms with insignia removed, and carrying Russian-designed weapons like AK-74s and Dragunovs. These armed units, some wearing black and orange St. George’s ribbons associated with Russian Victory Day celebrations, raised Russian and separatist flags over seized buildings and have called for referendums on secession and union with Russia. These operations are strikingly similar to those used against Ukrainian facilities during Russia’s illegal military intervention in Crimea in late February and its subsequent occupation.

US State Department is now Ukraine's PR department.
That said, it does appear very likely that Russian special forces are in eastern Ukraine. I don't think the goal is to seize it like Crimea, but to destabilize Ukraine and give Russia leverage to negotiate some of its demands, the chief of which is a concrete guarantee of no NATO in Ukraine, ever. Failing that, Russia will probably work to stir up trouble and keep Ukraine a conflict zone in perpetuity to make it too messy and risky for NATO to touch.

Ugh... some of those state.gov facts are outright lies. Sad to see propaganda coming from both sides of the isle now...

I think Obama needs to digest some of his own words of wisdom.

The biggest issue with Russia right now and understanding what is going on is the inability for anyone to sort through what is fact and what is propaganda. There is only one country that I know of that is on par or rivals our own CIA and it's Russia. We know for a fact that our own CIA has been involved in countless acts that involve, spying, assassinations, propaganda and the overthrowing of governments and the installation of puppets, I see no reason why Russia wouldn't do such things either.

All it takes is an uninformed populace and a few well placed people to get the ball going.

I agreed at first. Now I'm thinking it's more likely that Russia's intent is to destabilize Ukraine to the point that Russia can justify stepping in and annexing (temporarily, of course) all or most of the remaining portions of Ukraine.

The anti-Russian stuff was pretty sickening during the Olympics. Instead of talking about the athletes and the games the news was interviewing terrorist "experts" about Sochi's security and reporting about construction delays.

Good link.

This from the article, reminds me of something from a fiction book quote below this quote :

"A few weeks ago we were told in the West that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine was a very good thing. These people, we were told by our political leaders and elite media commentators, were 'pro-democracy protestors'.
..
Now, just a few weeks later, we're told that people occupying government buildings in Ukraine are not 'pro-democracy protestors' but 'terrorists' or 'militants'."

"At this moment, for example, in 1984 (if it was 1984), Oceania was at war with Eurasia and in alliance with Eastasia. In no public or private utterance was it ever admitted that the three powers had at any time been grouped along different lines. Actually, as Winston well knew, it was only four years since Oceania had been at war with Eastasia and in alliance with Eurasia. "

What should truly disgust you is this fake story floating around about Jews being rounded up in Ukraine. What should disgust you even more is the people perpetuating this myth.

thought it was the us state department who was running ukraine

oh but if we americans would just get some common sense and "let europe go the way it is supposed to go" and then we can understand ukraine is the de facto enemy of the us and russia and the world
