Russian Defence Minister Presents Rumsfeld with a Kalashnikov

My Russian is not what it used to be, but I found this story amusing. Sergei Ivanov (Russia's defence minister) presented Rumsfeld with a tie pin in the shape of a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Apprently Ivanov has been wearing one for a long time (presented to him by Kalashnikov himself) and Rumsfeld was green with envy. So finally Ivanov gave him one too.

In other news, Ivanov also distributed photos of a uranium container with signs in Russian which the Russian intelligence tracked down in Afghanistan. Except that the signs are not the same and in a different place than the genuine Russian weapons-grade uranium containers. So he basically said, "if you find one like this, they are not ours" 🙂

Dumsfeld was just jealous of Venezuela.

Yeah, I read about that one. Seems we think Russia should request permission from us for any and all weapons sales. I'm sure the State Department was politely told to stuff their concerns up their collective ***.
