I am listening to some rimsky-Korsakov and have listened to prokofiev etc lately.

It still amazes me to this day that they were able to create such passionate pieces under the communist government they were under. ..

Prokofiev did have roral favor for a time, winning the nations prize, but eventually lost it, and yet still made such patriotic moving music.

Rimsky-Korsakov is sooo moving. his Scheherazade, symphonic suite, Op. 35: No. 2 is uncharacteristic of any other music out there.

If you like Prokofiev, you should PM Dr. evilevil. He just won the 2nd place by playing the prokofiev 1st piano concerto in the competition :) He has the MP3 of his playing, maybe you can ask him to send you the file.

Rimsky-Korsakov died in 1908. There was no any communist government until 1917 in Russia.
