Just the idea of a wire-guided missile is hilarious to me.

Even the bird flying by at the end was laughing.

And if you're close enough to launch that.....let's call it a missile, couldn't you just walk over and chop it down?

The sooner the better.

Similar outlook to that of the Unherd interview I posted here a few pages back, which explains it a lot better:

Snake Island is the gift that keeps on giving. Article is a brief recap of the continued Russian naval and air defense losses trying to keep that island

Ukrainian Forces Hold the Line in Donbas as Western Heavy Weapons Join the Battle

Western weapons, including NATO-standard 155-mm howitzers supplied by the U.S. and its allies, have begun arriving on the battlefield in Donbas. Ukrainian officials say that will allow them to switch from defense to offense and seek to regain lost ground.

Mr. Kyrylenko, the head of the Donetsk military administration, warned that even heavy losses aren’t deterring continuing Russian attacks.

“They keep coming like zombies: We destroy their troops, their armor, and then the new ones arrive. We cannot relax because the situation remains difficult and the enemy is very numerous,” he said. “But now we have proven that we’re able to not only halt but also defeat the enemy with quality, not quantity—no matter how numerous the enemy is.”

I read it as “When Belarus forces attack Ukraine” they will have understood this lesson.
I mean, how easy would it be for Putin to nerve gas this fool if he is acting up?

Honestly, I'd rather have Sweden and Finland in NATO than Turkey.

I'd be down for that... but losing an "ally" in Turkey has major consequences. Even as hostile as they are today... their arming of Ukraine played a large role in why this war was not immediately lost. A lucky happenstance Turkey did not anticipate, or even want? Maybe.... but it still happened.

However, it should never come at the cost of protecting Europe. Sweden and Finland will join, over Turkey's dead body if it must.
I'd rather we find a way to deal with them. Diplomatically.

His marriage with Moscow is one of necessity not preference. Russia will come out of this a lot weaker and he knows it. Positioning for what’s next.
if belarus did try to break from putin and got hit militarily by rus, would anyone in the west care? would nato offer help to belarus? there are belarus fighters who joined the ukrainian army, would the US see this as an opportunity?
it is a weird time for sure, this is the neo-con wet dream and the repubs are stuck on the putin->trump->repug daisychain of fellation.

Ill indulge you. Drones monitoring every 100 miles or do and notifying border patrol if movement is detected. Border patrol offices every 300 miles. Cameras every 100 miles also with live monitoring. Electronic monitoring along the entire border. Motion detection.

That would be a start.

edit: this is a good article on a "SMART" wall. Which has garnered bi-partisan support.
The “smarter” wall: How drones, sensors, and AI are patrolling the border - Vox
You are suggesting stuff that is already in play where the budget allows. Also, the "if movement is detected" and "motion" detection is pointless, unless you have a way to eliminate wildlife, the weather, vegetation (trees blowing in the wind), etc. You would be spending most of your time on a proverbial wild goose chases, looking for something that doesn't exist. (looking for a person, when it was caused by an animal or the weather) Hell, ask anyone with motion detection security cameras, how often they go off because of a stray cat or dog, ore even the wind causing a tree to move to much. (yes there is technology to indicate when it's a person.. but do you seriously believe it would be hard to fool that technology?) You also seem to be ignoring the costs as well. Are you aware that it costs over $12,000 an hour to operate a Drone, not to mention the Millions each drone costs? (smaller drones are coming into play, helping reduce costs). The costs are discussed in the very article you linked as well as other factors.. yet you didn't stop and do the math.. I am not even sure you read the full article. 1 single drone, flying around 24 hours a day monitoring a the boarder would cost over $288,000 per day, or $105 Million + a year... We already spend over $4.8 Billion per year on boarder security (yet you claim we don't secure our boarders). How much more do you believe should be spent? Where will that money come from?

What you fail to realize, is you can have every possible boarder security measure in place, and it will still never be enough. Because all any security measure does, be it a security system on your car/house, or boarder security, is to keep honest people honest. Those that truly want to get in your house, car, or in our countries thru our boarders, will succeed no matter what security measures you put in place, because every security measure has a way it can be circumvented. The real people you should be worried about, the actual dangerous people, the real criminals, no security measure will stop them. Yet, you spend your time worried about the people trying to make a better life for themselves, screaming we don't have boarder security, when we do.

Anyhow, that's enough about this OT discussion where it doesn't belong.

Well, if you have a security system on your house, you really should let your boarders have the code.

But .... how does this concern Ukraine?
