But they'll just ignore the order. And what are they to do when they violate it? Shoot commercial planes down?
Well for the most part they would want to enter UK airspace to land in the UK somewhere. If they ignore the order and land anyway, you just take the plane.

So yes, Russian planes can land in the UK...once.

If Aeroflot wants to fly all its planes to Heathrow to be impounded that's...a choice they could make I guess. The pilots would probably be arrested too.

Just got done watching the 1983 TV movie "The Day After" Could this be the beginning of something bigger. Something more tragic? Could we get into a necular war with Russia?

You have to wonder how many freedom fighters/terrorists Putin is creating by this… Even if he wins the day

More action from the Europeans;
The European Union is planning a third round of sanctions against Moscow and according to an EU official they will include freezing all assets held there by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

It is not known how many assets either man may hold within the EU.

However Mr Putin's personal assets had previously not been touched with sanctions.

I doubt he would have much stashed away inside Europe in his own name.

Just watched the videos under the one you posted.

Why would anyone want to drive on the streets when there is a war going on? The poor guy was trapped in his vehicle. I'm suprised he survived.
Because like it or not people need to eat and they need to work so that they can eat. What did you think was going to happen? We work with IT people from Ukraine, and while I would totally understand if they decided to leave for their own safety, so far they are all still working. If you don't work, you don't get paid, and you don't eat. That's the shitty reality.

I missed this yesterday too

There's actually some real, internal backlash going on in Russia it seems.
Hard to keep a regime oppressed in the information age I guess.

If we want to take out Putin, and internal coup/assassination would be great.

More reason to bring the economic pain to Russia.

FT had a live program online.
Putin is isolated and somewhat mad.
There is no good news.
End FT report
Sence 2014 the largest number of loses in the war in eastern Ukraine has been Russian speaking Ukrainians fighting Russians.
Americans know little of post war history of Ukraine. There was an insurgency that lasted into the 60's in Ukraine S.E. Poland and Slovakia. Ukrainian resistance was fairly strong. If they keep up this tradition and the west supports them Ukraine could be a ne Syria. Not good.

Fighting the Cossack has never been easy.

Ukraine will have another force of 130k recruits ready to fight by the end of this month.

We need to up the arms and ammunition getting to them. Also, Poland is really stepping up, Ukraine is lucky to have them as a neighbor. Not just helping equip Ukraine's defenders, they have staged dozens of relief areas just across the border to help fleeing Ukrainians. No VISAs, long as you have a passport come on over. Bravo Poland.

I'm not sure Putin thought this through very well. A force of ~190k can certainly defeat Ukraine militarily, but it's nowhere near enough to hold onto it. If he was expecting to waltz in there, win in a few days/weeks, and be seen as a liberator of some sorts that was embraced by the remaining population, he's not a very smart guy.

They do not even need a passport. Hospitals are ready to take casualties as well.

Countries of Europe could let ex service members, national guard members go take part in the resistance- without repercussions when/if they come home.

I think the non-military response from the west has largely been quite good, so far. A unified response.

I wonder if it would have been as coordinated under Trump, or a helter skelter mess as I suspect. Probably wouldn't have even levied half the sanctions so far.

Oh wait, I forgot, Trump would have "projected strength" and prevented this altogether.
