I found an analysis suggesting the USA has something like 600-700 THOUSAND precision guided bombs. This is not counting other PGM like cruise missiles, excaliber, GLRSM, etc. Why the USA has limited dumb artillery makes perfect sense for their own interests. It does confer some limitations on helping allies, and in a true near peer conflict air supremacy might not be possible.

Yeah, they'll figure it out I think. I do think that the peacetime stocks are just too low tho. You fight today with what you have today. Artillery shells are cheap, and we can't rely on NATO obliterating things from the air when it comes to situations like Ukraine.

The US wants to move on to better longer range fires like the M1299 which will have newly designed charges and shells in the near future which will be purchased in subsequent legislation. This is probably why they are not purchasing several million M795 155mm shells now. The Marines also are divesting their 155mm towed tube artillery which is why so many M777s are available for Ukraine, they want to focus on rocket artillery. That's probably also the reason for the huge GMLRS buy.

A conversation probably should be had with Europe about creating strategic reserves of common munitions and refurbing/storing systems with long lead times instead of scrapping. Rich western countries should not have a lot of issues paying for proper storage of these items so that they are usable if need be.

Yeah, looking after their own needs should come first of course, but maintaining a reserve of less sophisticated systems for a situation like Ukraine seems wise. There are other countries the west might want to help without directly engaging in combat.

The M795 can be used in the 58 cal and adding a PGK to it will improve its accuracy. There will still be the need for an area effect and not just pinpoint strikes.

AFAIK they're developing another PGK that will go on the front of the new M1113 RAP shell which I think is the intended bread and butter of the new platform. They could use the M795 but they'd need to scoot closer than I think they intend to be in the future.

XM1210 is going to be the version of M1113 used in the new platform.

Dunno if this has been posted, but...he's had a plan in place since Spring.

He is rumoured to be worth $200bil. Could pay for a few facial transplants. Certainly a fair few folk would be chasing him. Recovering his assets for both Russia's and Ukraine's benefit would take decades.

Can you just imagine the size of the bug out bag he's got stashed somewhere out there in the wilderness? I'd wager a king's ransom and then some.

Quite believable in that Venezuela is one of the most corrupt countries on earth and will do anything for someone with the sort of money Putin may have. Good choice of country for his purposes.

Yes, it’s warm and has a pretty hostile relationship with the US.

I am skeptical about this reporting as if it’s something new though. If I were a dictator I would always have a plan of where to flee in case shit goes sideways as the lifespan of a fallen dictator in his own country is generally short.

While this woman's story sounds great how did she survive two world wars? 93 means she was born ~1929.

math > overzealous reporter obviously. But ww2 is a safe bet.

Interesting morning in Germany today

~Among those arrested is the former AfD member of parliament and judge Malsack-Winkemann from Berlin. According to taz information, she was intended to be the future "Minister of Justice". She was also arrested in the morning. Initially, there was no comment from the AfD. The 58-year-old had only been allowed to work as a judge in Berlin again in October after a legal dispute.

The subversives apparently saw Russia as their central political partner. Prince Heinrich XIII R.'s partner, the German-Russian Vitalia B., is said to have arranged contacts with Russia. According to information from the taz, the prince himself is also said to have once visited the Russian consulate general in Leipzig. However, the Federal Prosecutor's Office states that there are no indications that Russian contacts "reacted positively to his request".

The most believable is Russian agents recruiting Q nutters... If you think that is only happening in Germany... maaaaaan.

Maduro is making moves to improve relations with the US lately though. Not sure thats the best spot for him.
