I think ultimately Iran has just as much right to sell their shit to Russia as we do to sell our shit to the Saudis.
Just like the Pakistanis had the right to sell their nukes tech to the entire world...

In this case, there actually is an applicable UN Security Counsel resolution that appears to make Iran's export of these drones and missiles "illegal", of course like all UN actions it is completely toothless

Proliferation of nukes is a little different than general weapons. But still no one invaded Pakistan over it.

U.S. deploys troops to Ukraine

I don't mind helping with weapons, supplies and intel but is this our flesh and blood fight to be in? I hope the headline is misleading.

Edit:
Looking at the CBS article cited in the story just says 101st is deployed 3 miles from Ukrainian territory. Not "IN' Ukraine.

The headline is a lie. The 101st is deployed to Romania. Don't get news from random websites of podcasters.

I'm sure the CIA and various special operations commands are in Ukraine but no regular troops.

Nor does the actual article you linked to state our troops are IN Ukraine.

lol what a mess

otoh the willingness to pass a very fat slug of Ukraine aid next month is going to very high in the Dem caucus

I can understand the political motives of posters here saying that it is just the evil Republicans that want to cut aid to Ukraine, but that is not the case and has never been the case.

Blowing through the smoke of the politics and and election coming, I think that there is enough support on both sides of the aisle to get a vote passed regardless of who is the majority.

Jeez, if you don't think McCarthy and others are already positioning themselves to -- America First!- cut aid to Ukraine, you're just not listening!

That's probably true, but lame duck passage of a huge bill is our best bet. Otherwise, many Republicans will cut the amount and then exact a political price for what they do vote for. Why can't you see that?

I really can't decide whether you're just inept and clumsily combative in how you express your views, or . . .

Lefty tankies are functionally no different than conservative pro-Putinists. Both deserve heaps of scorn.

While I do think the GOP threat to withhold funding is weaker than people running for leadership in that caucus represent I don't see any reason to take chances.

Seeing some posts that Sweden might send a dozen Archers to Ukraine.

That would be nice since they are pretty much the primo wheeled self propelled gun on the market. L52 gun and fully automatic capable of very rapid fire.

No wonder the modern GOP likes Putin's Russia. I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear that "Satanic cults are taking over" from some Conservative politician, and it would probably win them points back home.

Get in line Satan, we've got illegals, gays, kneeling football players, trannies, socialists, commies (of course), antifa, BLM and a bunch of others we need to use as bad guys first!

I think it is a matter of reading into what is said by the other side based in your expectations going in. There was plenty of analysis and a follow-up quote from him saying what is the big deal, don’t you want more bang for the buck and no blank cheque?

He personally voted for the previous aid packages and McConnel said that the Senate Republicans support continuing aid to Ukraine.

If you think that recognizing political speech pandering to a base is inept, then, sure, go with that.

There is zero chance of anything but a Democrat representing the district where I live, so not a direct concern for me, but the Republican base is pretty anti-Russia (and China) and very pro-Ukraine and Taiwan.

Maybe stop labeling people that don’t agree with you as being stupid and perhaps you will be more persuasive.o think the Republicans nominated a pretty inept cadre of new candidates this time, the fact that they are doing so well is enough for me to see that the Democrats are missing what is important to the voters.

What is important to me is that we continue to aid Ukraine and keep Europe doing the same and get ready for whatever China will try next.

I personally am not a genius in my voting. I just voted no way Trump and Harris lived in my home city and her mom taught at one of the universities I went to. Otherwise I was going to vote Green or Libertarian.

^^^ What I understand is that McCarthy, Hannity, Carlson et al are pandering to their Motherland Master and urging Ukraine and the rest of the world to 'not resist, just lay there and take it'.

The Republican base is a lot less anti-Russia than you think and this is highly relevant. Republicans' primary focus is on their hatred of their domestic political enemies. Leading right wing opinion makers like Tucker Carlson are working very hard to limit or end US support for Ukraine and have the US realign towards Russia.

The most important thing to remember about Republican politicians is unlike Democratic politicians they are captured by their base. If the Republican base turns against Ukraine you will see Republican politicians march right along with them and there were already plenty of signs the Republican base is willing/starting to do that.
