Taiwan also has western fighter aircraft in addition to its own homegrown planes.
Did you see what Russia did to Ukraine? Disabled their air defense capabilities. I bet China knows where to hit their missiles to take out all of Taiwan's air bases.

We have the power to crush him if we want, and no one, not Bush, but Trump, not Obama, not Biden have ever made that a credible threat.
Bush was a frat boy joker, Trump an ass kissing fool, Obama was hamstrung by chronic American racism. Biden OTOH is an old man who has nothing to lose by taking a tough stand against Russia. You may be surprised.

To remove someone from the security council requires the approval of the security council, meaning any permanent member can veto their own removal.

The UN is not going to do shit. It was able to police the bad behavior of a permanent member exactly once in history, Korea, because Russia had boycotted it. No permanent member will ever make that mistake again, and so it has no power over them.
There is a clause in their charter the country that is subject to this vote is excluded from voting

This isn't ground breaking strategy. It's common sense that those are your first and foremost targets.

Taiwan already has meaningful anti-ballistic missile systems and they're probably going to acquire THAAD this year now.

Because condemning the invasion accomplishes nothing. Words, Words, Words, Words. Don't mean squat unless you have a big stick to back it up.
The entire message of the leftist party for the last 30 years is disarm, shrink the military, and spend that money on welfare and Medicaid.
Ending the cold war and disarming was never a good thing, the cold war was the only thing that kept the aggressive idiots of Asia in check.
Weakness has been shown. The leadership on the left no longer has the stomach for war and the armies of darkness and destruction are prepared to march.
Who is going to rebuild all those battleships and carriers and soldiers to liberate Europe for the third time, and then who is going to liberate Taiwan from China?
You would think after 2 world wars, Korea, Vietnam, and several other conflicts since then, you might learn a thing or 7.

Never truer words have ever been spoken
I've been catching up on thread and haven't seen if anybody refuted this yet. Here's a graph of US military spending as a percentage of GDP. There was a slide after the end of cold war and another slide after great recession, but under both Trump and Biden the military budget increased substantially both in terms of percentage of GDP and in terms of absolute dollars.

So fuck off with your lies.

Ukrainian Ambassador more asking the UN to remove Russia from the charter (or at least the Security Council?)

I don’t think the UN can do that. One of the many reasons why it’s essentially toothless when it comes to bad faith by bad actors.

They're asserting that Russia isn't the same as the original USSR which was the "permanent" member of the SC. Interesting point, in that Russia just sort of assumed they were the successor out of all the original states. Similar situation happened previously with China, except the members approved that conversion instead. Here, no approval was gained.

Putin mentinoed he wanted to remove the Azov Battallion and other Nazi's from Ukraine.

What do you guys think of that? Since Azov is a neo nazi and white supremacist group?

Azov Battalion - Wikipedia
I think the idea that Ukraine is run by Nazis when their leader is Jewish is such an obvious lie that we should laugh in someone's face when they make the claim.

It is true that there are some neo-Nazis in Ukraine, but that's true for a lot of countries and frankly if anyone's acting like the Nazis right now it's Russia. Then again the Soviet Union and the Nazis always had a lot more in common than they had differences.

So much social media dis-information going on right now. The fake videos (video game scenes) are spreading at an alarming rate..
Seen/heard on network TV last night, from a correspondent commenting on Russian propaganda concerning goings on and reasons for actions: "It has been said that the first casualty in a time of war is truth."

The oligarchy is Ukraine is supporting the Azov battallion. So is our own country with providing them military aid. Read the link...

Ihor Kolomoyskyi
Kolomoysky has a triple Ukraine-Israel-Cyprus citizenship
The group was funded from its origin by Ihor Kolomoyskyi, Cypriot-Ukrainian billionaire business oligarch.[60]

Funny that a jew is funding a neo nazi organization isnt it?

Was the Ukraine regime not ready to do that? Seems stupid to defend a group and risk war with a powerful neighbor. It does seem like Putin is just making excuses.

Not really funny, also not particularly relevant. Even if these guys all dressed up like Hitler every day it would do nothing to excuse this invasion.

And I think we both agree that if anyone's acting like Nazis here it's the Russians, correct?

I figure as long as Taiwan is by far the best/greatest producer of high end semi-conductor chips they will have major international support against Chinese take-over.

Spare me your misconceptions of what it takes to actually fight a war.
GDP Spending does not equate with SIZE of the military.
200 jets which cost half a billion each does not equate to having men armed and ready to fight.
In 1985 we had 2.2 million active duty military personnel. Today that number is about 1.2 Million.
it took 16 million US troops to fight WW2... you seem to be off by about a factor of 15.
