Absolutely no training for these guys Poor guy knows the odds he's looking at, almost in tears.

No shooting, no squad/clearing tactics, no comms training, nothing. Wtf are they supposed to do?

It's like Moscow wants human sacrifices on a huge scale. 3rd Army got eviscerated then curb stomped, should be a theme moving forward. Poor bastards. Use that ghetto Afghani AK on your brass, then surrender asap. Life can be more than being cannon fodder for bratva. Looks like the generals are going to let Putin kill you and ruin the country all he wants. You should act accordingly.
Putin is having the Ukrainians carry out his ethnic cleansing policy by sending minorities to the war in numbers far greater than their perccentage of the population. Yes, Putin wants them to die. If they wear down the Ukrainians while dying, so much the better.

A dirty bomb detonated in one of the major contested cities would be a perfect example of this. It'll probably kill more Russian soldiers than Ukrainian, and provide an eye-rolley 'now we have an excuse to use nuclear weapons'.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if one of Putin's goals was to thin out the objectors (specifically) by conscripting them and having them be the ones who slow the Ukrainians, who then largely occupy an area he might 'sacrifice.' Putin and Russian nationalists seem bent on punishing those who they feel have betrayed them by choosing the West. Some consider it a fatal offense, one worthy of torture beforehand. Sick assholes.

Putin probably needs a lot of his remaining somewhat-trained troops to ensure his regime at home now. Rosgvardiya can't be everywhere.

Come on Prigozhin, any day now. Scapegoat, successor, I don't really care at this point. Putler must go.

Ugh that's right, I had forgotten about the Tartars. That is so sad. There are others I'm sure, but that's the group I've read about recently. I'm guessing Cossacks stay at home for the most part, but I hope not. I'm ok with that group being marched at the M777s and PzH2000s. They picked their bed long ago, they can sleep in it.

So what's up with the Nordstream pipelines leaking?

Sounds very much as though it was a deliberate attack. But what would be the rationale for doing so, when they aren't currently being used and are, as I understand it, legally owned by Russians anyway?

If it's the Russians, I don't really understand why would they bother, when surely if they wanted to they could just turn the taps off at their end anyway?

All you Trumpanzees that wish he were an autocrat and supreme ruler, this is what your country gets. I would never advocate for violence or suggest killing in the name of the betterment of society. But if Putin's head were to be removed by a sniper's bullet, accidently, imagine how much better the entire world would be.
TBH I was thinking the same way before the 2020 general about TFG.

Desperation, they need to find a wedge to cleave Ukraine from western support.

Once the conscripts are armed, what prevents a mutiny killing the officers?

I doubt every rifle of theirs has ammo.
Plus, the remains of the real Russian army keep guns pointed to the heads of all the men in front of them.
Russians stand in the back. Their liberated (read: dead) men are placed in front.

It sends a signal, 'We can attack your energy supply/independence just the same as we can cut you off from our supply'. it's intended to provoke some kind of response, either capitulation or instigation, either of which is better than stagnation for Russia's leadership.

Former Polish defense minister seems to think the U.S. blew up Nordstream 1 & 2. The most intriguing part here to me is why would a former Polish defense minister take the time to say it at all.

It's my understanding there is no love for Russia to be found in Poland, correct me if I'm wrong.

Why would the USA even take the troubles to do it? The pipelines are dead elephants.

I do appreciate the idea mentioned above by @[DHT]Osiris that its a warning shot by Russia. The Norwegian-Polish Gas Pipeline is in the same area.

Also don't forget that Russians are just colossal dicks. When the RU military was kicked out of Latvia in 91 after their (2nd) independence, Russian navy sank a couple of subs in the port at Liepaja so that it would be useless to the Latvians. The subs remained for more than 25 years, IIRC.

It's the type of pettiness that they have always displayed which makes it quite clear that of course they would bomb their own pipeline out of spite. It's exactly how they behave and there is no reason any thinking person would question their culpability in this. These are also the types of moves that a guy like Trump calls "brilliant."

A new NAFO meme has been born;

:D

Snagged from this twitter thread.

There is an interesting part of the talk by Solovyov. He complains that the government haven't made their own drone factories 7 months after the war started. That Russia is reliant on Iran. He hasn't made the connection yet that a mafia state can't make complex components and items as discussed real early in this thread.

Suppose .... just suppose ... that the charges were mounted during construction and rigged for future remote triggering just in case ... just in case they might be needed ... some day.

I'm imagining it isn't easy to repair underwater pipelines. I think Putin has a lot of chips on winter in the EU being more difficult than estimated (my family in Germany isn't particularly enthusiastic about the costs of this winter) and the midterms in the USA to loosen up things in Ukraine. It would be nice for Russia to flip a switch and get gas flowing again on demand, seems counter intuitive to blow up your own pipelines. Is the U.S. taking sanctions to a new level?

I also get the view that Russia could cry wolf and point fingers. I'm not sure any of us will ever know precisely what happened.
