Does anyone really think the real Putin went to Mongolia? :))))
Mongolia has a population of 3 million.
Which is to say... they got nothing. There will be no enforcing of international "law" while smack dab in the middle of Russia and China.
They are lucky those nations allow them to exist.

A good point...

But if Germany had nuclear weapons back in those days, would the argument be different?

Russia also isn't sending many of their good units to the Kursk front as was expected.
T-Rump the horseshit-mucking "stable boy" genius explained this between burgers:

“When Russia sends its people, they’re not sending their best. […] They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They're bringing guns They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”

They really aren’t. What would the benefit be to Russia or China if they conquered them?

A good example would be Mexico. If we wanted to we could easily conquer them but we don’t. Is it because the US is so nice? Of course not. It’s because conquering Mexico would do nothing for us.

This is similar to what I was saying about eastern Ukraine. Russia gains very little economically from those areas because they can’t use the resources they already have. Russia invaded because they thought it would be easy and then Ukraine would be a client state, a very similar mistake to what the US did in Iraq, the only difference being we have a competent army so winning the ‘war’ part was easy.

Isn't using phosphorous on troops a war crime?
This is total war. Ukraine is facing Genocide. Russia frequently uses chemical weapons on Ukrainian positions. There are no rules beside kill or be killed.
If we want to pretend to have moral values and rules, then there is a simple rule to follow. No Russians outside Russia. No aircraft, no ships. No one.

1: Their reasoning, not mine.
2: If both you and your neighbor hold great value... why not murder the neighbor and claim both?

Russia is stronger with more land, than it is without.
Unless we stop them.

They're the largest country by land area already, with a smaller GDP than Italy. I have doubts that a little more land will suddenly make a big difference.

Physically acquiring a direct land route / border with Transnistria, Slovakia, and Hungary. Allies with which to expand their military campaign. To drive a wedge into the heart of EU / NATO.
At the onset, Russia probably hoped to capture at least 30 million more people in Ukraine alone. Slaves / meat for the grinder.
And you cannot pretend that having control over more land is a bad thing. Ukraine's food supplies to the world market are no joke. Russia wants to control those, to control more people.
