"Give your enemy a way out."

I'm struggling to envision a way out of this for Putin. I assume he'd grasp any lifeline thrown to him at this point. I don't know what that lifeline would look like though.

For Russia. Just stop attacking.
Then we can talk about what peace looks like after they give Putin a retirement.
Not to conquer them, but to live with them. What they are doing today cannot be lived with.

They can leave whenever they want. They just can't leave with their dignity.

That's basically the best case scenario I see. That makes putin a dangerous man. And we all need to sit back and hope Russia chooses correctly. Seems like a huge portion of their population knows what the right choice is as well. Too many for Putin to suppress.

I wish we could give Ukraine some of those anti-ship missile trucks the Marines have now. Russia really deserves to lose a few ships in the Black Sea. I still can't believe they shot up a Japanese merchant vessel at anchor.

U.S. troops used them in this fashion to smash German fortifications on the western front and again in Korea. Hemingway describes the use in his war correspondence. Chinese human wave attacks didn't work so good against AA guns.

Yup, didn't know about that particular historical application, but flak AA I would imagine could be quite nasty against infantry since it rapidly fires explosive rounds.

What you know depends on what you read. I haven't read Hemingway's war correspondence, but I have read Anthony Beevor's "Stalingrad: the Fateful Siege."

Press in Poland reports Russian Military massing on Polish Border. This has to be a bluff. If not it is WWIII.
All of my family lives on that border. By the time the Russians came back for a second time not a stone was left on a stone of the house my grandmother was born in.

Russia absolutely does not possess the capacity to take on NATO and Ukraine. It would be suicidal.

This is nonsensical. He didn't attack a NATO nation for good reason, it would fail badly. The Poles will not for one second hesitate to send anything that crosses the border straight to hell.
Look, Europe is scared shitless about WWIII and any armed conflict that may lead to an Nuclear Holocaust. Putin knows this and is holding them hostage to that fear

Vox has a really good piece on how nuclear deterrence is why Russia was able to invade Ukraine without fear of a Western military response.

No I get it, it's just that as an American I feel bad casting judgment given what my people have done for profit. Swiss neutrality has also proven to be a valuable lane for diplomacy and communication in times when normal relations just don't exist. Their commitment to privacy and neutrality has made them a reputation they are loathe to part with or jeopardize.
The neutrality isn't the problem. It's the "commitment to privacy" that allows Russian oligarchs to launder vast wealth and stash them at Swiss banks.

Disagree. The Russians would only fire nukes if their territory was invaded and they had nothing left. The Europeans won't try a regime change of Russia in defense of their land. Pretty sure a regime change will occur inside Russia well before we get to this stage though.

Thank you Elon!

You think Poland is a push over? Russia tries that and it gets a large contingent of Abrams right up the ass. Poland is NATO, you understand this right? I'm having a hard time squaring your attitude with your level of ignorance on these topics. Probably time for you to give the inane speculation a break.

It's sure working just about now... The Bully with enough Nuclear Warheads to end life on earth has Europeans and the Western World Scared Shitless
It’s weird that you think NATO not defending non-NATO countries means they won’t defend NATO ones.

Also apparently Russia is having a lot of trouble with the Ukrainian military, which is not exactly renowned as a well trained, modern force. Imagine the field day a real army would have with them.
