Personally I really do not see this ending well for anybody. yet just when you thought there could be no other option...Putin says --- this --

I am undecided what to think of this...
Perhaps Putin is smarter than we give him credit.
Perhaps this really is a war of words or symantecs.

I cannot see how the Russian Army would want to fight their own people.
Even the opposition speak Russian.....hmmmmm

MOSCOW (AP) — Vladimir Putin talked tough but cooled tensions in the Ukraine crisis in his first comments since its president fled, saying Russia has no intention "to fight the Ukrainian people" but reserved the right to use force. As the Russian president held court Tuesday in his personal residence, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry met with Kiev's fledgling government and Moscow agreed to sit down with NATO.

Although nerves remained on edge in Crimea, with Russian troops firing warning shots to ward off Ukrainian soldiers, global markets catapulted higher on tentative signals that the Kremlin was not seeking to escalate the conflict. Kerry brought moral support and a $1 billion aid package to a Ukraine fighting to fend off bankruptcy.

Lounging in an arm-chair before Russian tricolor flags, Putin delivered a characteristic performance filled with earthy language, macho swagger and sarcastic jibes, accusing the West of promoting an "unconstitutional coup" in Ukraine. At one point he compared the U.S. role in Ukraine to an experiment with "lab rats."

But the overall message appeared to be one of de-escalation: "It seems to me (Ukraine) is gradually stabilizing," Putin said. "We have no enemies in Ukraine. Ukraine is a friendly state." He tempered those comments by warning that Russia was willing to use "all means at our disposal" to protect ethnic Russians in the country.

Significantly, Russia agreed to a NATO request to hold a special meeting to discuss Ukraine on Wednesday in Brussels, opening up a possible diplomatic channel in a conflict that still holds monumental hazards and uncertainties.

There is more...

If Russia had an intention to fight the Ukrainian people they would know it by now.

Very close to war shot fire here, fortunately older and calmer commanders injected. You can see the younger hot-shots getting all riled up wanting to wip out thier dicks sticks

This is the moment Russian troops guarding an air base in Crimea fired warning shots into the air as they were approached by unarmed Ukrainian troops.
About a dozen Russian soldiers at the Belbek air base warned the Ukrainians, who previously employed at the base until Russians seized control over the weekend, not to get any closer.
The troops fired several warning shots into the air and said they would shoot the 300-strong group of Ukrainian soldiers if they continued to advance.

Putin blinked. He realized that falling markets, economic sanctions, and potential strategic military support from the west to other Baltic States are too much of a cost to invade Ukraine with.

Does he mean all Ukrainian people or just the ethnic Russian ones. Putin has Crimea now so I imagine he is happy with the results of his invasion..... Barely a shot fired.

Shit is going to hit the fan when China moves to take over sovereign Japanese territories. This is going to be an interesting year.

To that issue I would say with the carrier groups and the training they go through almost daily that decision as to how we respond has already been made and perhaps even at the lowest official level. There is an urgency to responding to the Chinese. Yet what could w ehave possibly done with our military as a response to the Russians??

Absolutely nothing. There is no way we can project enough power in the Ukraine in any reasonable timeframe (if at all) to oppose a Russian invasion there.

Oh my god everyone should chill the fuck out, I never thought russia would ever fight ukraine. You guys don't understand that ukraine and russia are culturally and socially much closer than canada and usa, everyone has relatives in either country, so they potentially could fight their own families. 75% of russians polled on feb 24 were against any military action in Ukraine, and putin knew that shit would go down in russia if putin would decide to do it.

I'd love to see Putin's longs and shorts in the European and US stock markets.

Great link.

BS link, i stopped reading after this :

With artful bullying and a $15 billion bribe, Putin had pulled off a diplomatic coup by getting President Victor Yanukovych to reverse Ukraine’s nearly finalized deal with the European Union and align itself vaguely with Russia and Putin’s shabby League of Eurasian Dictators.

Russia signed a 15bn credit line to Ukraine after the EU refused to do the same , it s not a bribe, it s an official money lending from state to state yet the author of this shitty article can do nothing but expose his bias when commenting on this deal.

Except that it's the Ukrainians country not the Russians.

Historicaly Ukraine is the heart of Russia and Ukrainians are basicaly russians the same way that Belarussians, it s not that it s two people with different ethnicity or even a same people with a different religion.

History is great and all but it should be up to the Ukrainians if they want to be part of Russia not up to the Russian army.
