I Agree with Strk, not only are the spent fuel Rods worthless for weapons production, Russia will still control the spent fuel rods.

And its why Israel, the USA, and other nations are not peeing their pants over the this long delayed Russian decision.

I'm hoping aside from the fact that they are just taking opposite sides to the US to keep them in check, that they are doing this to keep the lunatic islamist states in check.

But I feel like they tried this back in the early 20th centuries and it blew up in their face.

Last I checked Russia liked to extend its influence. An independently nuclear Iran will decrease its influence. So I basically trust Russia to watch our for itself.

At least Russia has seemed to have scrapped the S-300 sales to Iran.

Would you rather burn trees? Or drain swamps?

Or have miles and miles and miles of coal trains.

It is remarkable that people think that this is an ordinary nuclear reactor. In early 2011 Iran will cause a nuclear attack on major cities of the United States. It will be weak bomb, about 20 kilotons, but it will allow Russia to capture the Caspian Sea and to use its resources and caviar for the restoration of the Soviet Union.

Those bastards, how dare they have energy. Doesn't Russia know we don't like Iran, so anyone selling them energy, food, porn, needs to be destroyed?

Now, we're not unreasonable. If Iran will simply let us name the next Shah and take over again, we'll let them trade.

Russia and China have investments to protect and a United States to keep in check. This is not new.

To answer the OP, neither, they are competitors. I thought that's what the capitalist religion was all about?

The thing is, Iran just wastes huge quantities of natural gas in their oil production sector. That gas could supply much or all of their electrical needs, and probably be cheaper than nuclear power.

But then again, as others have stated, a LWR is not the way to go for any kind of weapons program. So their motivations are not clear.
