Russia Developing New Nuclear Missile that could make U.S. missile defense system useless

Putin reportedly said: "International terrorism is one of the major threats for Russia. We understand as soon as we ignore such components of our defense as a nuclear and missile shield, other threats may occur."

News reports have also said Russia is believed to be developing a next-generation heavy nuclear missile that could carry up to 10 nuclear warheads weighing a total of 4.4 tons, compared with the Topol-M's 1.32-ton combat payload.

Topol-Ms have been deployed in silos since 1998. The missiles have a range of about 6,000 miles and reportedly can maneuver in ways that are difficult to detect.

Earlier this year, a senior Defense Ministry official was quoted as telling news agencies that Russia had developed a weapon that could make the United States' proposed missile-defense system useless. Details were not given, but military analysts said the claimed new weapon could be a hypersonic cruise missile or maneuverable ballistic missile warheads.

Is the U.S. the Terrorist threat???

Why would Russia feel compelled to develope system that can evade the U.S. Defense system???

Not surprising considering that Russia developed missiles years ago that can sink any American ship afloat including the mighty Aircraft Carriers by doing a randomized zig/zag pattern in range of the Phalanx anti missle system just prior to impact. And then promptly sold them to China. heh

why would the US develope a system to stop Russian/Chinese/whatever missiles?

Exactly.

Today's "ally" is tomorrows "enemy". Putin knows that if he has no deterrent, that Russia will be pressured by it's relative weakness. He can claim it's all about terrorism, which is a convenient catch all justification used by us and everyone else who chooses to.

You just hit the nail in the head. If you knew why you wouldn't have even asked of course. However there's only a theory on this and no real prool. If there was proof a lot of people would be in jail. Of course how do you get a government to investigate itself and the companies it is in bed with. To cut their own throat? Not in a million years.

That's true, under the Bush Regime "The Cold War" with Russia they would be called "Terrists".

We should've invaded Russia, that's a lot of Real Estate.

Nanotech will allow a disturbed but intelligent teanager to destroy the world. It's time humanity started to defend against the self hate insanity that has us in its grip. But we can't because we are repelled by the pain and would rather die than remember. And because we preoject our pain out there we will kill ourselves by killing the other. We are all going to die of our own insanity thinking it's someone else's fault.

Want a scarry thought?

The NSA is roughly 20 years ahead of commercially available technology. Keeping that in mind.

In the next few years major companies with the help of power companies are looking to get approval in Japan, Canada and the US to offer high speed data connection through power lines.

If there ever was a chance to do terrorism that would do it right there regardless of where you were.

The thing is it would never be approved unless safeguards wouldn't already exist.

Nuff said.

So when my power goes out I won't be able to use a high speed connection? I don't think that is very big concern with most people. Power lines would only be used as the last mile connection and not for important networks.

To escalate an arms race that puts billions in the pockets of government, military, industry.

How old are you? If you are more than 14 or 15, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Putin and the Russias are simply being Russian. NASA just broke Mach 7 with that new SCRAMJET.

Who says the Arms Race is over?

The nuclear arms race was over. Until Reagan decided to build 'Star Wars' and more recently Georgie proposed building a new class of nuclear weapons for actual 'battlefield' use.

As we are all painfully aware now, a battlefield can be a city...for example, Fallujah.

Which could put us in the position of bringing freedom and democracy at the tip of a nuclear missile to nations we invade on the false charge of possessing WMD. LMFAO

If you didnt know that a city can be a battlefield before the USMC started its assault on Fallujah, you are extremely ignorant. That isnt an insult, just a fact.

Try googling "Stalingrad" for starters.

Yay! A new arms race! And just when a Cold War stalwart is about to be made Sec'y of State.

Wonderful.

Well, at least she is actually trained to deal with Cold War stuff

IIRC, a bunch of the current Russian ICBMs are nearing or have passed the limit of their service lives.

Under START II Heavy ICBMs are supposed to be eliminated. We are supposed to finish decommissioning our 50 Peacekeeper missiles by 2007.

I don't know what Putin is playing at by announcing this new missile system that appears to be in violation of treaty.

I really don't think Russia wants to get back into a strategic arms race with anyone. They can't afford it.

I think it was a rhetorical remark. Why are we spending billions to develop new planes? Because of OBL? No, because Russia and China and a dozen other scenarios. Likewise, other countries will do the same. What is there to be ashamed of?

Cold War II could be an inventible happening. Consequently, Putin has made some drastic comments as far as curtailing some of the election processes in Russia, thus relying on top members in the party being appointed. Nevertheless, I believe Putin has been in the hot seat ever since the debacle at a Russian elementary school. I believe he takes this threat seriously, and has openly stated he will bomb any terrorists he sees fit.

I think this has been the plan all along.

Isn't Start II the Treaty that Bush reneged on in order to build his NMD system? I think it is.

That would be the ABM treaty.

Take a course in reading comprehension.

"As we are all painfully aware now, a battlefield can be a city...for example, Fallujah."

How do you get the notion from that statement that I didn't know cities can be battlefields???

My point, although completely lost on you, is that Bush and his band of neocon madmen are instigating a new nuclear arms race wherein they propose developing a new class of battlefield use nuclear arms, and that battlefields, AS WE ARE ALL PAINFULLY AWARE, can be a city.

Moron. That isn't an insult, just a fact.

START II is just a reduction treaty; however, Dubya and Co. made a new one that basically says "we all reduce, but there are no set dates except for 2012, when the treaty expires"
