I'm very excited about the possibility of this game eventually being released.

Anyone here who looks around at Polycount or CryDev has probably seen this work in progress now for the past few years.

It is being made by a small Russian developer who describes it as being an FPS / RPG hybrid (similar to STALKER) covering a seamless world over 100 square kilometers.

They have recently converted all of their work from CryEngine2 over to 3, and it is looking absolutely gorgeous. The art direction and environment are just stunning.

Anyway....they recently released this "pre-alpha" video showing a little bit of the combat and environment (I believe a lot of this was still in CE2).

I love the approach of the Russian / Ukranian developers....hopefully this project will go all the way and not end up in the vaporware container.

Definitely has potential. Maybe they should go kick-starter? Don't know how much money they need, but I'm sure that pre-alpha footage would bring in plenty.

The video starts with: "Following video is a year-old pre-alpha footage".

Why do devs do that? Releasing old pre-alpha footage as a mean to advertise their project? Is there any advantage between... say... doing that or creating footage of current status development? Because the impression it gives me is that between now and a year ago nothing changed that justifies such a "current status" video. Not to mention that in the video's description (below the video window I mean) it says that the genre is "Realistic first person action RPG", is supposed to be multi-platform, supposed to contain a single-player campaign of 80+ hours, a multi-player component and on top of that is also supposed to be a "combat simulator"... and of course that it will be released "when it's done".

And is there any market for "realism" and "simulators" for the consoles? Good luck with young gamers complaining about how tough it is because their character got one-shot by a bullet to the chest or the head and that there's probably going to be no respawn (in single-player, if they really want to make it "realistic" as they say). I'm sorry, but I have the feeling that projects like that never see the light of the day. If it does make it then... good I guess, I'll keep an eye for it but I won't hold my breath.

Valid points, but this is one project that I really don't want to give up hope on......even if it is just blind hope. The dev still actively posts project updates at CryDev....it isn't dead, it's obviously just a lot for a small group of guys to accomplish.

Definitely gonna keep an eye out for this. I've always been a fan of CryEngine and its a shame hardly anyone uses it.
