The new single, Far Cry, went to radio yesterday. You can hear it at the newly redesigned rush.com, and see a few pics of recording in the studio. I recommend in ear monitors or a high end audio system. ;)

Neil's website tells his side of some of the recording. An interesting read, I thought.
His recording drum kit.

Is Alex looking a little fat?

Edit: the single's not bad - almost a Roll the Bones sort of feel... I like it.

What, only one bass drum? How simplistic.
Yep. Again, it's just his recording kit. Read his blogs on neilpeart.com for explanation.

For one thing, he doesn't need everything for the sound of one album, that he'd need to play songs from their entire catalog as on tour.

Also see this.

This was posted on melodicrock.com today:

A LITTLE RUSH PR:
Some of the press releases I get sent are laughable in their content and over the top overtures about the artist they are attempting to promote. I got another good one today, but in this case it's all true and I love the band, so over [to] the PR people!
5 Things You May Not Know About Rush
1. The Canadian power trio have sold MORE records in the U.S. than The Police, The Who, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Kiss, Paul Simon, R.E.M....do I really need to go on here, people? (source RIAA.com)
2. Rush was named "Group of the Millennium" by the Harvard National Lampoon (and Harvard kids are WICKED smart).
3. Rush has 2 annual, international fan conventions (RushCon and EuCon). Highly doubtful we'll see BritneyCon or J-LoFest anytime soon.
4. ***The New Rush album Snakes + Arrows hits stores May 1ST!!!*** (#4 is always reserved for shameless promotion).
5. We conducted an empirically-extensive, painstakingly-performed, no-one-held-at-gunpoint poll, backed by science, reason, logic and one thunderous drumbeat, the result of which demonstrated without question or doubt that Rush Rules (...ah, you knew that one already).
Rush - Snakes + Arrows - Release Date May 1, 2007.
Go to www.rush.com to hear the new single Far Cry - or here via Windows Media: streamos.atlrec.com/wmedia/atlantic/rush/farcry/farycry_radio.wax.

Neil has written a recent essay for his website here. A good read if, well you enjoy reading Neil's writings. L:)

Slightly off topic:
Neil's talk of the upcoming tour gets me excited only to remember that they might not be coming here to Nashville. For their last tour, the R30 (30th Anniversary) tour in 2004, they came to Nashville a week before the tour started for a final stage rehearsal. And on May 26, they kicked off the long R30 tour here at our beloved Starwood Amphitheater, and I had seen a rumored list of a few dates from the upcoming tour that they would again start here, but shortly after the lovely company that is Live Nation announced 2/13/07 that they were closing Starwood. A real bummer. It was by far our best large venue. Everyone here is upset and there was a even a petition to save it (google 'starwood petition'). You might read the blogs here or some of the comments here. There were some Starwood photos on their website, but I can't get any of the recent sites to work correctly on archive.org.

FYI, Liam Bert is Rush's tour manager, and lives here, which I guess has something to do with why they start the tour here (just guessing though). I saw Liam at a Rush tribute band show last weekend but didn't get a chance to talk to him.

Thanks for listening. LOL. :(

This album is a total blowout. WAY WAY WAY overcompressed. :|

Music is good - but they totally TORCHED and I mean TORCHED it - Vapor Trails style. :(

Where have you heard it?

The single sounds good to me. I think they've learned their lesson about VP and surely won't let someone over compress it again. I seem to remember they've stated that in interviews too, about sound quality on this one.

That reminds me, I need to pick up a copy of Test For Echo on CD. Had it on tape once, but can't find it anymore.

Perhaps not screechingly bad but on par with atypical pop castration. :|

24 bit tapes tend to sound a bit better than an MP3 too. ;)

I love RUSH but I wasn't particularly impressed with the single. It started off pretty good, with distant shades of "Subdivisions" but then it was just too overdone. Still better than most of the crap that's released today though.

I just wish they weren't playing Charlotte on a Monday night. I'm getting too old for big concerts at the start of the work week. :( I may have to go though. I haven't seen RUSH live since the Presto tour back in the early 90's. I had 10th row/center floor for that and it was amazing.

I like the single, and will buy the CD when it comes out. I went to the show in Denver when Vapor Trails was the newest CD. It was kind of funny lessoning to people after the concert. "They did did not play this song or that one". Come on if RUSH played all of their best songs the concert would of been 6 hours long. Not that I am complaining about a six hour RUSH concert. :D

I went to RIAA.com to verify this and I could not find such info.

Got my copy, plus reissues of ESL, GUP and ASOH on dvd. I can finally retire my laserdiscs of those shows.
