Runnning into a roadblock with a Pally 1700+ in K7V8X

So I unlocked it with superglue and a conductive ink pen (and an insulin needle!). Been doing the slow increase thing, and got up to 12x at 134/34, for a total of 1608 Mhz.

Underclocking to 100 MHz FSB and 16x works, but 16.5 doesn't work (POSTs but no Windows). 12.5x @ 133/33, same prob. and same for 12x@135/34.

The best I can do is maybe a minute into Windows then BAM reboot.

Iive tried setting the Vcore up to 1.850, which is as high as it will go, and ASUS Probe measures it at about 1.872. All other voltages are stable, AFAIK, and temps PEAK at 35 C under 100% load. I fold 24/7 on this machine and an OC that isn't stable for folding is useless to me.

The only other thing I've tried is upping the DRAM VOltage to 2.85, and of course that didn't do anything. I've only left the memory timing at auto.

It is rock stable at 1608MHz, but adding just a little extra tweak breaks it.

Any suggestions, or am I at the end of my overclocking rope?

Pallys only went to around 2000+ or so. You aren't too far off that(!1900+ or so I think). They just don't have the same OC potential that .13micron chips had.

Seconded. I had some Palomino's awhile back - they really didn't overclock too well. Probably only 200mHz over stock at the most.

Well I checked the CPU database on overclockers.com and apparently they've gotten some better results. Though I DO have the AGOGA stepping (as opposed to the AGOIA which seems to be better).

Ah well, I was hoping for some tips, but it 1609 is the best that I can do, then so be it.

Thanks guys
