i have a dfi ultra-d nf4 board and im sure you know about the chipset placement problems. if i run the card in the 2nd slot in 8x mode vs. 16x mode of the 1st slot will i see much of a performance difference?

Very little difference at the worst, not many cards take full advantage of 16x yet.

Synthetic tests MAYBE. Real world? Not really.

You might wanna check out 8x/8x vs 16x/16x SLI benchmarks to get an idea.

those are somehow missleading in some ways. although they could be usefull.
The problem with SLI 16x16 is that there is the extra latency between the two chips required to do it. when Nvidi actually bring a single 32 lane chip or more then we will really see some difference i think.
then again those benchmarks show very little difference from what i remember.
Either way. the speed is the same as 8x AGP and that was not slow.
I think that Toms did some experiments with a X800 series card to see which bus speed would be required to run games without a serious difference in speed. as i remember the conclusin was that even 4 pci lanes were enough for the card to not really be affacted that much overall.
