Running Windows2K on Athlon X2...

I'm a big fan of w2k pro and when I went dual with intel xeons awhile back I had to make a switch from win2k to win xp. To make a long story short win2k pro supports only 2 processors so hyperthreading doesn't work and there's a sizable performance hit with smp aware applications in win2k.

My question is - anyone running win2k pro on an X2 box? How's the performance? Anything I should be aware of (i.e. patching the os, etc.)

thanks!

TheMan,

I hear ya. And with the Unofficial SP5 for Win2k, there's really no reason to go to XP. 2k is just so much more responsive and uncluttered. You can get USP5 here:

http://www.willsdownloads.com/blog/win2ksp5.php

and read about it here:

*** EDIT.. I forgot to mention that you can integrate USP5 into your Win2K installation CD using nLite from here:

http://www.nliteos.com/

Just add it in as a service pack and nLite will build a bootable image, you can specify unattended installation options and add or remove components. SOLID.
