Running Windows 2000 without a SWAP.

I currently do not run a SWAP file, as when I play porsche unleashed, it always just eats up all the swap and doesnt do anything. Is there anyway to get rid of the error message that appears everytime i start the computer and at random times when my memory usage goes over 150 MBs complaining about me not having one?

I have 640 MBs of ram installed in this computer, so RAM usage should not be a problem.. Short of setting my SWAP file to 1 MB or something, is there a solution (registry key or something) to get rid of these errors?

Thanks.

i consider myself a knowledgeable user of win2000 and i didn't know you can run without a swap. do you just set the swap to 0? does windows accept this?

What is interesting is you cannot set a swap to 0. If you do, it will immediately turn the number into a 2. What you can do however, is simply highlight and hit del so it clears the field. I don't see why on God's green earth you wouldn't run a swap. Windows eats up ram fast regardless of how much you have. Why don't you set a permanent swapfile instead?

As I said, I have tried having a permanent swap file, but porsche just keeps using it all for no reason.. for example, if you have 256 MBs of RAM and a 256 MB Swap, all is well, and porsche uses about 200 MBs of the RAM.. If you have 512 MBs of RAM and a 512 MB Swap however, porsche will use 512 MBs of RAM and 512 MBs of SWAP for some reason...

As for turning the Swap file off, turns out that Win2k had made a 20 MB temporary swap file for me anyways. The easiest solution was for me to make a 32 MB permanent swap file, and do it that way.. My peak memory usage so far is 300 MBs, less than half of the 640 MBs of RAM i have, so I don't really see any need for a swap file..

whatever.
