Running Win2k better on a PIII or AMD T-bird

I'm currently building a new system and I ran into a dilemma with what CPU is better suited for win2k, AMD T-bird or the PIII processor. I have several Pentium systems running win2k and I love them all but cost is becoming a major factor. I was either going to get a PIII 800mhz or an AMD T-Bird 900mhz processor. Here are the two specs.

Spec. 1:
Motherboard: ASUS CUSL2 Socket 370 133mhz bus
CPU: PIII FC-PGA 800mhz
Mem: 256MB
Video Card: Radeon VE 32Mb DDR

Spec. 2:
Motherboard: Asus A7V Socket A133mhz bus
CPU: AMD T-bird 900mhz
Mem: 256MB
Video Card: Radeon VE 32Mb DDR

Took me several weeks decide but I decided to get the AMD T-bird processor. Was this a good choice or should I have just stayed with good old Intel chip. Would the win2k run better with the Intel or the AMD?

I am running Win2k on an Athlon 800 and have never had a problem....almost a year without a serious crash. The only time it does crash is if i am doing something outrageous (running winDVD, playing quake, listening to mp3's etc) AMD is great with Win2k

My Duron works well with Win2k, you made a good choice, that t-bird will likely walk all over the P3.

Hmmmm I would'nt consider playing Quake or watching a DVD "outrageous" I would say that would be "Normal" use. Just my 2cents.

I run Windows 2000 on a PIII 733 and an Athlon 1.2GHz. Both run perfectly fine and without any problems.

running win2k on a p3 933 vp6

cs, q3, ut, all the good stuff, dreamweaver and photoshop printing combo, no crashes.

its safe to say that as long as you run win2k, pick to your hearts content.

Either one are fine. But, just a reminder, if you plan on OC'ing your t-bird, you need to be carefull with your CPU/mobo settings.

I run a PII 300@366, PIII 650E@650, PIII 550@550, and a PIII 850@850 and they run just fine. I have had absolutely no issues with any of my CPU's, except the PII 300 when I tried to OC it at 400+.
