Running Vista on a Travelmate 8200

what kind of luck would i have if i installed vista x86 on my travelmate 8200? i'm very excited about vista, but i want to make sure i will still have a functioning machine before i bite the bullet. Should most/all of the XP drivers work in vista? what are the odds i'll run into major problems with my assorted mobile drivers?

It's hard to tell because it could work and it could fail (XP drivers). Worst case senario is that Vista will use some junky default driver.

I'm not real worried about video drivers, i just downloaded the ATi vista driver, and its actually the first driver i have seen from ati that explcitly states support for the Mobility X1600. i may just try and install it in XP....
I'm just worried about loosing major funtionality...like not being able to boot or something.

I doubt that Vista will screw up something in the BIOS or boot record but if you can't afford any "suffering" then try Vista on a junk pc. I've looked around and haven't found any major issues with Vista but remember it's beta software (then again all Microsoft software acts as beta software). Back up important data and see how it goes.

i have the 32bit version installed on my acer ferrari 4005 and works like a charm. 100% stable so far.

i didnt try 64bit cuz the cdrom seems to be some problems w/ files or else would of gone w/ taht.

otherwise bluetooth, wireless, everything works

find out if your webcam w/ work w/ vista or not before installing but sometimes u can even use xp drivers w/ some devices.

goodluck and try it out!
