running two video cards for MSI P6N SLI Platinum

I just got the aforementioned motherboard, and I would like to run two video cards in it for a quad monitor setup. I am checking out the motherboard and there is this little card that I have to flip around and plug in to specify whether I am running it in SLI mode or not. When it's not in SLI mode it says one slot is 16x and the other is 1x, when it is in SLI mode they are both in 8x. Now I guess when I'm running a quad monitor setup it's technically not in SLI mode, but is 16x and 1x correct? What is going to happen to the card in that 1x slot?

Run slower, but I don't think you'll notice the difference unless you use that card for gaming, so the ideal set up is put the stronger card into the 16x, if they're the same cards you have, then just make sure all the graphics intensive stuff displays through the card on the 16x slot.
