Running sound over the IDE channel??? How?? & SB Live question

It wasn't long ago, and for the life of me I can not find the thread, but there was a discussion about running your sound card via the IDE channel. That is, these folk did NOT have their optical drives plugged into their sound cards via the little 2 & 4 pin cables. It was run directly thru the IDE channel. How do you do this? What gear are you using? What os or software aer you using? Enlighten me please.
Also, for those running any of the sb live cards...did you install ALL of the crap that came w/ the card? I did not b/c i don't want all the crap running & loading etc. But now what I did load does not run right. If I try to use any of the extra software in the little creative tool box thingy my sound sh!ts the bed and i have to reboot. All i can say at this point is c'mon Aureal!! Somebody/company better do CPR on Aureal or are we gonna be left with CL's crap?

I'm running it under Win2k on my SB Live. All you have to do is go to device manager and select your CDROM/DVD/CDR/CDRW drive and hit properties. Then hit enable digital audio output (I believe that's what it's called, but I'm on a Sun box right now). It might ask you to restart.

StrangeRanger, in response to your original question about running a sound card (SB Live), via IDE channel I think that you have your facts distorted. I think that you remember someone saying that they installed a Live!Drive which connects to the sound card via a cable that looks a lot like an IDE cable, however, it is a different cable. This cable ports various functions to the front of the computer and the Live!Drive is housed in a 5 1/4" bay. You can plug a microphone, headphones, midi input& output, as well as digital in and out. I recently installed one and I like it a lot! 🙂🙂
