Is it wise to run both seti and DF on the same machine, will it slow down both considerably?? Im on a athlon 2500xp

If they have the same priority then they will each take 50 % of the CPU.
If one has a higher priority then it will take 98 to 100 % of the CPU and the other will have nothing left.
So you can go for it but have a look at the process priority.
Note : You will also loose some power with the process switching and your crunching power will be a little decreased.
