Odd that Intel don't list it in there S spec list!

How about looking at the specs of the only 2MB P4 listed?

yeah, there's a 3.4ghz with 2M cache there...

guess this cpu is very, very new ;)

I suppose I could set the memory real slow & see what the cpu will clock up to - I just wanted some advice hopefully from paeople who have had one of these before me.
Maybe I'm the first on AT to get one???

Well, I lowered the mem to 320 & upped the FSB to 240 for a 3.6ghz cpu.
I'll see if it runs good like this for a while before trying anything higher. ;)

Ah heck, who can wait...

I upped the FSB to 250 for a cpu speed of 3.75ghz.

Running two instances of seti right now. So far, so good.

CPUZ reports my memory is running @ 200mhz (400 ddr) due to a FSB:mem ratio of 5:4

I'll let 'er burn in here for a while.

the 775 chips come with a great HSF - at least this one did

It's running at about what is expected for heat, I'll see how it did overnight.

The guys over on CPU/OC suggested this little proggy called Throttlewatch.

http://www.panopsys.com/throttlewatch.php

It watches for throttling on the P4 due to overheating.

So I ran it, & found that at 3.75ghz I was getting 30 - 40% TM1 throttling.

This was obviously not doing my seti processes any good so I clocked it down to 3.4ghz, in increments - @ 3.6 it was still throttling 10 - 20% & @ 3.5ghz it was throttling 0 - 10%,

On the upside I can set my memory / fsb ratio @ 1:1 now so my ram is running 454mhz ddr. I'll let it cook here for a while & see what kind of performance she gives. ;)

Like dragging a fly in front of a big old trout ........ temptation! :p :D

My rather large home office is also my media room so I've got all PowerEdge systems running primarily for the low noise level associated with those models. One of these days I may try to build another OCer but I may have to try water cooling or something that will preserve my peace and quite. Got to hear that surround sound you know. :)

Glad to see you are still enjoying yourself there, Wiz. ;)

Thanks Greg, yes I am!

I upgraded primarily for better HTPC performance. You know those widescreen DVD's only come with 720 x 480 resolution??? Did you know you can use software to get your computer to enhance this? Like 2.5x so it ouputs better than a line doubler?
Of course this takes some processor power, & my little AMD 1700+ wasn't cutting it even overclocked.

In fact even @ 1.1x it was hitting 100% cpu & causing stutters.
Now @ 2.5x it's smooth as silk. I watched Ladder 49 last night on my 92" screen in my newly made Home Theater.

I'll post pics as soon as I can figure out how to get my digital camera to take a wide enough shot to get it all in there!
Also, I need to clean it all up - hide the wiring & get my permanent ceiling mount up for the projector.

BTW I found a killer deal on the Home Theater projector with a free 92" screen. I did my research this time, went with one highly recommended at the AVS forums.

I've got one word for you: Sennheiser Headphones ;)

Seriously, I have all my computers in this one room and even though it's a 500 square foot room I just can't expect to be able to control the sound in here at this time.
Maybe later, when things are vastly different - but not now.

My next question was going to be throttling. Good to see you got it under control. And thanks for the link!

I also lowered the voltage to the cpu & connected the other fans in the case. Now the temp is down to 52c running 2 instances of seti.

Yes, Sennheiser makes great headphones. I have a pair of HD 280 Pro's that I like very much and also a pair of wireless HDR 30's.
Now looking into HDTV cable to plug into my projector - Comcast says it's only an extra $5 per month on their website, so that sounds like a good deal to me ;)
