Running Samsung PC2700 on P4b266

Hello everyone,

Can I run a Samsung 512K PC2700 on my ASUS P4B266? Is PC2700 memory backward compatible to pc2100 standard which is the stock ram speed of the mobo? If so, would I have better results doing this than getting a 512 Crucial PC2100 stick and then overclocking or am I just wasting money by doing this.

Also, is samsung memory's quality comparable to crucial's stick?

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

The 2700's will work. I don't think you need them at all though. They would be good for when you upgrade your motherboard, or if you plan to overclock. Otherwise it's just a waste of money.

I have (2) 256MB Samsung PC2700's on my other P4B266-C rig and they work fine. They are rated to run 166MHz, but you have a slim chance of doing so with a 1.6a+ cpu. It is priced roughly the same as the Crucial PC2100 and quality wise just as good IMHO.

Thanks for the input. Now, can I O/C my P4 1.6A higher with the samsung or will it be equivalent to the crucial stick?
