Was just wanting to know if i run a Hub into my Router to expand my ports, will everything run basically the same,or will the Hub slow down everything?

My Router is the SMC Barricade with built in switch.

The Hub will prob just be a cheapo 10BT.

Will my Routers switch also work on the systems hooked to the Hub?
or should i just go with a switch instead of the Router?

just looking for a cheap way to gain a couple extra ports and keep same bandwith as now.

Thanks for any info.

Put an extra Hub, and you will be fine. All the functions of the SMC Barricade will work on the computers that will be hooked to the Hub.

Thanks for the info JackMDS.

one quick question:

will i have to use a Cross-Over cable to hook the Hub to my Router? (ie: Cross-Over cable from Hub Uplink,to the Router)
or will a reg straight thru cable work?

If it is a true uplink (also known as "crossover" :D) port on the hub, then a straight-thru cable will work fine.

Connecting the hub to the router is a simple way to add ports, and it won't affect your bandwidth, but there is a caveat. If by "bandwidth" you really mean the speed of your internet connection, then you'll be fine. If, however, you have a number of pcs connected to the hub and a number connected directly to the router, and you constantly transfer large files between them, then yes, performance will suffer. If that is the case, get yourself a 10/100 switch, uplink it to the router, and connect all pcs to the switch.

Good call Astaroth (who, incidentally, is my favorite fighter from "Soul Calibur")
