I have a question. I have a few pc's that have no HD, I want to be able to run rc5-72 on them using linux or bsd from a floppy drive. Can this be done? Does anyone have any links to info on how to do this? TIA.

Someone once put together a Linux distribution that had the RC5-64 client and fit on a floppy. I can't remember its name; Klinux maybe?

Edit: Yes, that was it. I can't find any copies though. Does anyone else have a copy of Klinux on hand?

As NWM said.........Kilowatt was the author of Klinux.........run him down and see if he's got a '72' model :)

Well, Kilowatt hasn't logged into these forums since september.

Archive.org has a copy of the site, but not the binaries. archive.org site. I also happened to come across CCalvert's floppy based distro, which he abandoned when Kilowatt refined his. CCalvert's distro

Hope this helps, at least a little.

Haven't seen Kilowatt in a long time. :(

Klinux was excellent. Sciencewiz, ya beat me to it, I was about to post the CCalvert link too. :)

I did send Kilowatt an email about Klinux, so I'll post back if I get a response.

Dasm, just got a reply, bad email address. :(

He last visited Anandtech in Sept.

I figured this would be more popular than it seems. You could setup systems pretty fast this way and not have all the extra crap. Thanks for the links, keep em coming if you find more. I will post anything I find.

I got an email back from Kilowatt, author of the great and excellent "Klinux", Linux and RC5/OGR on a floppy. I used it myself on some crack rack nodes way back. :D

Unfortunately, he new client doesn't work well with the existing Linux setup. :(

Here is his reply:
I've already tried to run the new client (478) under the old Klinux, but no go, it errors out.
It would need a total rewrite of the Klinux images to use glibc 2.x libs, the same problem I had trying to run Seti under the old images.

While that would be cool to do, I'd rather use that kind of time doing a bootable CD image for network intrusion detection, port scanning local nets, etc, securing networks for $$$, besides just distributed.net, or DC projects.

I don't have the time for my "hobby" these days. :\

Well I got one running from a floppy install of picobsd. I am booting off one floppy then mounting another that has the dnetc client. With a little more tweaking I should be able to get it all on one disk.

small update. Got everything running on a single floppy. No interaction required. It only works with static IP's so far. Working on getting dhcp to fit.
