Is it possible to run two power supplies in parallel, such that both have enough capacity to handle the hardware needs, but should one fail, the other can seamlessly pick up the power demands? If this is possible, would this provide any real-world advantages?

They make redundant power supplies. There is more too it than trying to wire in parallel

Thanks for your reply. Do they serve same function - if one fails the computer can keep running on the other seamlessly?

Yes, that is the entire point of a redundant power supply. They are used for mission critical servers.

Connecting two supplies in parallel is like running an extension cord from your neighbors house receptacle and plugging it into your receptacle. Bad idea.
