I looked at the other threads and I dont have a difinitive answer.

I help out friends and family a lot when they screw up their computers. I am getting a 1GB USB drive. I wanted to have Norton AV and Adaware on a flash drive that I could take to peoples houses. I would like to be able to run these programs right off the drive to help clear all the crap off their systems. Do you know of anyway that I can do this?

Would this programs be effective if I wanted to just to run them off the drive?

Thanks!

Oh for sure, you can run non intensive apps (like dont think about loading up a game)

try running sandra on your USB drive to see its throughput.

SANDRA

But to answer your question, yes you can run programs off of a flash drive (my buddy even boots off compact flash *Damn small linux*)

Norton no, because Norton integrates with the Windows registry. You will be able to carry around standalone scanners such as Stinger though. The installers for adaware and spybot will fit easily, and hijackthis and cwshredder can be run straight from the drive. technically adaware and spybot do not need the registry to run, so you could just extract the files to the thumb drive and run it straight, but why not leave the program on for the customers to use?

I would have the setup files and other stuff on there as well, but sometimes the computer is so screwed up that you can't get to the website to download the files. Thats why I would want the files to be able to run on the key. Why does Norton need the registry?
