Running overclocking utilities

If I overclock my GPU using an overclocking untility (like Riva Tunner or nTune) do I have to open the ultility every time I start up my computer and keep it open to have the overclock effect? If that's the case, is there a way to permanently OC the GPU like how the card makers do it?

Lets say you try out MSI Afterburner for oc'ing your GPU, then read on page 15 of the maual, section 4-9 how to Apply Overclocking at system startup.

I use Afterburner. What I really like about afterburner is that you can have seperate OC profiles that are auto-applied depending on whether the card is operating in 2D or 3D mode.
