Running out of room in my OS partition.

I have 2 partitions, one for my OS (windows xp) and one for everything else like programs and data. The one for my OS has very little space, but a lot of various random programs use that partition instead of the other one. For example, on iTunes it stores a lot of the application data and a backup for my iPhone in that partition and I can't find any option to change the directory (there's only an option to change the directory of the music/media). I see that the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\DL\Application Data" has a lot of programs saving their files and info there and I can't find any options in them to change that. Is there some global option I can set to have nothing saved in that partition besides vital windows system type stuff?

Thanks for any comments/help/suggestions.

As I see it, you have about three options.

1. Get a bigger HDD and clone the existing one directly and proportionally to it using external bootable media such as Acronis TrueImage.

2. Expand the C partition.

3. Move program files and their sub-files to another partition or another HDD, internal or external.

Try this program [ EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition ], it is free here; http://www.partition-tool.com/ works great..lasts long time. Learn how to use it, and on occasion check back for updates of this fine program, also keep a copy in your Utility file for future use.

This was another excellent help post by our own corkyg, thanks for being onboard corkyg.
Anandtech does it again.

wow I tried to take some space from my D partitionto put into my C partition, and an error occurred during the process and completely wiped everything on my D drive.

Actually it's not completely wiped, I can still view contents from my old partition in that partition program, but I'm unable to locate it outside the program as it doesn't even have a name.

Extending partitions can be tricky. I copied my D partition and E partition to an external HD, then checked that all had moved ok. Deleted the info on D & E and used Partition Maker to delete the Partitions D & E. Extended C to the unallocated and made a new D. Then transferred the data etc from the external back to D. Folders and data came back okay, but apps that had been in D & E didn't work because they didn't matchup with the DLL's or registry entries and had to be clean installed.

get your hands on getdataback for times like these... always back up your files and i highly recommend some kind of cloning software to clone your hdd from time to time. i used PING and it worked great but took a long time.
