Working with an HP where the HP dvd burner died out, am replacing it with one of the new NECs. I just want to get Nero Burning ROM on the machine and test out the drive before I give it back to the owner. But Nero does not recognize the NEC drive as a recordable drive. I am assuming the cause is because the guy has like every dvd copying software ever written installed on the machine.
I had first tried the copy of Roxio that comes with the NEC drives (big mistake), and I think that is really why Nero can not see the drive. With the Roxio software installed, WinXP could no longer boot up and would go into a pattern of restarts.
Anyone have any experience with this of situation where Nero doesn't recognize the burner? BTW, WinXP's built-in functionality does recognize the drive as a burner.
EDIT - alright, while I was originally typing this out, I was getting the latest update for Nero, v6.6.0.6 and then the drive was recognized. Wasn't recognized with 6.6.0.1. Drive works great, so I'll uninstall the software & tell him that's what he's going to need to purchase to run the drive (I really really wish the NEC drives came with Nero Express instead of stupid Roxio...).
