i think a remember a while back ago that optimal memory frequency is when it runs insync with the FSB of the motherboard/cpu.

is this correct, and does this still apply? using my q6600 running at 266x9(2.4ghz) overclocked to 333x9(3.0GHz), is it better running my memory at 1300mhz(hypothetically) , or leaving it at 800mhz

Doesn't matter one little bit. 10+ years ago, with P4 or Athlon XPs, sure. Even though Core 2s have an FSB, running your RAM faster makes no difference, though can occasionally increase performance slightly, especially if the timings are similar between the FSB speed and rated speed (IE, CAS 5 at 800MHz is faster than CAS 5 at 677MHz is faster than CAS 5 at 533MHz).

There's no benefit to running it faster than 667 in your case.
