Running Laptop Through TV

I tried hooking up my laptop to the TV today. Simple enough to do via HDMI cable. But the TV screen isn't showing the entire laptop screen. In other words, some of the laptop is being cutoff from the TV screen. I'm sure it's a setting on either the TV or laptop I have incorrect. Anyone? Thank you.

Are the aspect ratios the same? Are the resolutions the same? You may have to play with DPI and/or resolution settings on the laptop. LCD TVs don't always have such adjustable settings except maybe for zooms.

Hi, Corky. The resolution on the laptop screen is at the default of 1920 x 1080.
The TV is an older Samsung DLP. It's been quite a while since I looked at the settings on it. Hell, I don't even remember how to do so. :hmm: Guess I'll have to dig out the owner's manual.

The resolution is probably beyond the TV's capability. Try lower settings.

What is the model number of the TV? Some older Samsung DLPs had a max resolution of 1024x768. Most newer models support 1280x720. A few new models support 1920x1080.

Max resolution on that TV is 1280x720. Set your laptop to that resolution and the picture should display properly on the TV.

What video card driver are you using? I know in Catalyst, AMD Vision center or whatever it's called now, it automatically sets a certain amount of overscan whenever it senses a new HDMI TV. Set that the overscan to "none" and it should be good.
It would be under "My digital flat panels," then "Scaling options."
