For example, if a 'window' freezes for some reason, it would be possible to jump to the Task Manager and kill that instance without having it kill every other Explorer window in the proccess..

Anyone have any insight on how to accomplish setting something like this up..?

You should be able to kill each instance by just hitting ctrl-alt-delete then just wiping out the instance that is crashed.

This works in XP and Win2K...I'm not sure about 98/Me/95 tho

Every single OS I've ever used (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP) automatically defaults to running Internet Explorer windows as a separate process.
