Running Graphics at Max

I was wondering I have Half-life 2 and the graphics settings on it are relatively low compared to the new computer systems that are out and when I try to increase the settings the game becomes choppy and slow. And so what type of hardware would be necessary for it to run at max settings smoothly? I already know that I would need the ATI X800 graphics card but is there any other hardware?

edit : infact, seeing as your CPU isnt bad really, just get the x800pro vivo, and turn it to XT PE via this thread

with comp in sig i run hl2 beautifully at 1280x960 6AA/16AF between 80 and 300 fps usually about 100. of course, i would use 1600x1200 if my monitor supported :(

also typing CL_SMOOTH 0 in console removes all movement jerkiness. i recommend this to everyone

Well I guess that depends on what you consider smooth? 30frames, 60 frames, 100 frames?

But to run at 1600x1200 4AA/16AF, I dont even think X800XT will be sufficient. For max details though, without any stuttering, I guess the best option would be SLI.

Realistic alternatives (if you really care about HL2) include X800XT, X800XT PE (if you can afford and can find them) and X850 XT, X850XT PE, when they become available.

I play it with my 9800 Pro @ 1600 x 1200, and it runs completely smooth. I do not run AF or AA @ that res though, but I have everything in the game quality settings cranked.
