Running dvd writer in DMA mode?

I have a Plextor 716-sa dvd writer and am having trouble burning anything. How do I verify and change it to DMA mode?

1. Right click "My Computer"

2. Click the "Hardware" tab

3. Click the "Device Manager" button

4. Expand the menu under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"

5. Double click on the controller your DVD drive is connected to (probably the secondary channel).

6. Click the "Advnaced Settings" tab.

7. Select the mode(s) for the devices.
