running cpu w/o fan.

i got a very old intel celeron 366, but my cpu fan is broken... my question is how long can i run my computer without a cpu fan?? it is only a 366 celeron and all i do is browse the net and write emails and letters on word, but i dont know if i should be worried about it or not, thx in advance.

Compac does that on some of their older systems,p2-400/500's.They use a massive heatsink,and have an exhaust fan to pull air over it.Very quite.With no fan or heatsink,its demise will be certain.

If you have a bigger fan, stap that baby on. Otherwise

1) If you run win2k, it will idle most of the time, and be fine
2) If you win win9x, get CPU_IDLE or waterfall, so it will IDLE at lower temps.

You won't fry it but it'll slow down and even lock up when it reaches certain temp. All intel chips have high temp protection. But why keep yourself worrying for something like $10.00-$15.00? Go to www.ColdCPU.com and buy a fan or a HSF.

Don't get CPUidle, it costs cash, and uses a VXD (it performs worse at peak times). Use RAIN instead, as it is still compatible with your CPU.
