Running backs don't normally have long hair, they are part of the body and yes you can tackle them by grabbing their hair.

Defensive backs are the guys with long hair as they are not normally tackled.

I think the NFL should go back to the old days when all players were required to have short hair...

soon they will wear tons of activator in the dreads so when people grab it they slide right off....

It's either dreads or having short/no hair if you want to avoid the dreaded "helmet hair" :D

I can't imagine a giant pile of sweat filled dreads would be too comfortable. Very popular though...more so with safties/dbs than running backs as mentioned earlier. Hasn't caught on with Caucasian players yet :p

I always thought they did it because it was one of the few hairstyles that you can see even when they're wearing a helmet. Sort of a way to stand out even if a lot of players wear them.
