Running an Epox 8KTA+/2/2A and a GeForce2 MX? Please read.

I've come across a couple people now that are having the same problem as me: Windows programs hang while scrolling. The video drivers are definitely at issue because the problem goes away when I use Standard PCI VGA Adapter (ugh). However, the common thread is that the problem appears when an MX card is on an 8KTA+ or 8KTA2 motherboard.

If you have this combination what drivers are you using? I've tried Asus 5.30, Nvidia 6.31 and 6.49. Any suggestions to fix this problem would be appreciated. (Yes, I've installed latest 4-in-1 drivers and the 4.04 Agp driver).

I have never experience any problem at all w/ 2 of my system.... can you be more specific on the problem? Those "couple people" all using ASUS card?
 
I appreciate the info Timekeeper. Are you running DX 7.0 or 7.0a?

One person has an Asus MX card. The other one has an Elsa MX card.

The problem is that no more than a few minutes after opening a program (i.e. IE5.5 or Navigator) the computer will hang while scrolling (with the mouse wheel or scroll bars). It doesn't always happen the first time I scroll but will always happen within a few minutes. The cursor still moves around the screen but the program is frozen. Usually 3 ctrl-alt-del's reboots the computer. About 1 in 10 times the c-a-d will bring up a blue screen saying windows is busy or has become unstable. When this happens, a key press will return me to the desktop.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!! IE5.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the problem w/ IE5.5 even when I still have my Intel C2-533@800.
I don't know why, IE5.5 always give me problem......Even after I uninstall it, it keep on giving me "freeze" problem.

End up I have to clean install the windows and then simply install the 5.1 service pack!

Maybe it is just me, but I don't use IE5.5.
 
This happens with ANY windows program that scrolls. I tried IE 4.0 and 5.01. Same result.

Update: I just flashed my bios to 12/01/00 version. Opened IE to Anandtech. Scrolled down to motherbo...frozen. I reinstalled the Asus 5.30 MX drivers and set the performance slider at second position (from left) and everything works fine. I don't imagine this will do much for game performance though. So, it is definitely video driver related.
 
I have the Epox EP-8KTA2 and an eVGA (?) GeForce MX running Nvidia 6.31 at 190/190. I haven't had any problems. I have IE 5.0 (5.1?) as backup for Opera 5.0 as my primary browser. IE is not integrated with the OS (98Lite)...just sits out there kinda by itself.

The system has been real solid since I bumped my Duron 600@900MHz voltage to 1.8v. I use either a Logitech or Microsoft USB wheel mouse. Oh yea, DirectX7.0a and original bios which I'll upgrade when the mood strikes

Well, I tried reverting back to the 11/10/00 bios as suggested by Nauete in the video forum and it appears to have worked! Yayyyyyyy!😀

Peter, I'm still curious as to which bios has the release note you mentioned.
 
Sporko, I am having the same problems with my Epox 8tka2 motherboard and powercolor Geforce 2 MX video card. I am running Windows ME. I glad you posted your problem, I was about to go crazy. I will flash my bios to 11/10/00 and see if that does it for me. Thanks
 
The 11/10/00 bios solved the problem. I am having a problem booting from a 1.44 mb floppy. disk I/O error. The floppy drive and cable check out good in my other system. It just acts flaky. Thanks for the help.
 
I also heard that if you "disable" the "fast write" option in the BIOS, ASUS MX card will works flawless?

That's before you decided to degrade your bios.
 
I have also had this exact same problem. I tried the mboard update route, but went for the 12/01 drivers. While those helped, it still locked up and would totally freeze when i tried to run bryce.

I tried many, many NVIDIA drivers from 6.08 to 7.18 and they did not seem to make any difference with this problem.

I will go back to the 11/10 board drivers too and cross my fingers 🙂
 
update:
The 12/13 bios also worked in my case. And I am using the 6.49 Detonator drivers. Everything is very stable now.
 
I have this same problem that I created a new thread for, I need the BIOS update can someone give it to me? Also how would I go about flashing BIOS under Win2k as there is no easily accessible DOS?

and w/ EpoX board, all you need is the BIN file in a empty disk.

press "Alt" + "F2" at bootup. THAT is ALL to it.
