How safe is it to run a PC without a case for a few days? Will this effect the quality of the parts or anything?
Thanks :).

You'll have to be extra careful of the following:

- Electrical shorts
- Static dischage
- Dust
- Falling objects
- Inquisitive animals

Other than that, no, it won't hurt it.

- M4H

Hmmm, how could I avoid the electrical shorts and static discharge? It's a pet-free house, and it's pretty clean too, in a secluded room, so dust shouldn't be a big problem (it is just for a weekend), and it will be on a desk with nothing but the ceiling over it, so nothing should fall (unless the ceiling collapses, hehe), but I am concerned about the first two, how could I possibly avoid that?

go ahead and run it on the desk.......just make sure you set it on some thing that wont conduct electricty....(wood/plastic/cardboard/ desktop) you get my point..other than that .......go for it.....

Might overheat. Just sitting in a small room with little to no air movement can heat things up. If you have a fan (a big fan not a PC fan) laying around you could turn it on and have it blowing a large steady stream of air over it and overheating would be the last thing to worry about.

man, i would just wait till you get a case, what happens if you accidentally drop something on the m/b? like something metal? accidents happen to even the most careful people...

Damn, maybe I should wait until my case does arrive, not worth the possible risk. I like my Apple G5 anyways, I can use it for a few more days :). Thanks for the help guys, but I'll just hang around a few more days for my case.

Negative, you should tape paper targets on your G5 and take it to the range tomorrow morning.

Heh, sounds like a good idea, oh wait, I paid for this thing! LOL, despite what you guys may say, the G5 is pretty damn fast, and works great with programs I use (such as Photoshop, Shake, Flash, Bryce). It may not be the fastest thing in the world, but I can't really complain considering I paid $1400 for a G5 1.6 with 1.25GB of RAM, two 80GB SATA's in a RAID, a combo drive, and a 5200 Ultra, can I? :-D.

You paid $1400 for a FX5200?

;)

And to put this back "on topic", no, it will not hurt to run a PC outside the case, even for just a couple of days, hell, even indefinitely :)

Alright, it will depend on if my video card comes today/tomorrow ;). I know my CPU and motherboard are arriving today, and I already have RAM, HDD, and Optical Drives, so all I need is the video card and case, but I am not sure when the video card is arriving. Hmm...
