Running a higher vcore?

Old processor = xp1800 - Palomino - Default voltage - 1.70v (or 1.75, don't remember)
New processor = xp2600 - T'bred - Defalut voltage - 1.65v

Here's the problem, the lowest I can set the vcore at on my motherboard (Gigabyte ga-7vrxp) is 1.70v

I just installed the 2600 last night and left seti running all night, under full load it's running about 5 degrees warmer than the Palomino.

Temp is 45c under full load, which it usually is under because of distributed computing.

Am I going to hose this chip in the long run by not having the right vcore?

Can you mobo not run default settings?? I believe you don't have to set any voltage and leave it as factory default, it'll be set at 1.6v.

You won't lose that CPU as long as the voltage does not spike till 1.85v or higher.

It's set at default but showing in the bios as running at 1.69v

I just assumed that default for the motherboard was 1.7.

When you set it to default is it supposed to get that info from the CPU?

If so, maybe I need to update the bios then. I'm one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guys so I have an older bios that may not properly recognize the 2600.

When you set the jumper at default, the BIOS should set the votlage according to what the CPU is defaulted at. I suggest you updating the BIOS since it's not seeing the correct voltage setting on the CPU.

FYI - This is a listed fix in the F11 bios (I'm on F6)

"Recognize correctly AthlonXP 2400+, 2600+ CPU"

I'm currently undervolting my old TBird 1.33 to 1.7V (1.75 default) and it's survived 12 hours of a 24hr torture loop so far. Also running about five degrees cooler.

Some Tbird 1.2Ghz and higher can be undervolted till 1.65v.

bunker- Do you have an Asus MB by any chance? Every one I've ever had over volts by .04V. So if it defaulted to 1.65V it would run at 1.69V. I read somewhere that Asus designes their MB's that way on purpose for stability.

Updated the bios, vcore down to 1.64
