#1, an ultima 90 isn't a very good cooler, especially for a quad. #2, check to make sure that the thermal paste is applied evenly and all cores have plenty. #3, check to make sure the ultima-90 is mounted properly. You could probably get a little better temps out of it, but you're not likely to be able to get much overclocking beyond stock voltages without a better cpu cooler imho.

I have an XP90 (not even as good as the ultima) on my X3350 (runs cooler than a Q6600), and @3.5 under full load, it does 71c, so I would say you are in the ballpark.... I tried a Q6600 a while back on my XP90, and it was doing 74-77 @ 3510, so again, I think it may be all that cooler can do.

@OP, what about your case? how's airflow, etc...

stock vcore, but 3.2 ghz (see sig)... It will still be hotter than stock by quite a bit. And some motherboard pump the vcore by default....Not if we know the exact vid and vcore @ 3.2 that would help, but I really think its too small a cooler.

Edit: actually, he doesn't state vcore.

It does seem a little hot. Thats under full load @ 3.2 ghz ? And whats the vid ?

ok OP, please tell us the following:

What is your vcore measured in the bios? What is vcore at idle as measured by cpu-z? What about at load (prime 95 or f@h)? What are your temps at idle? At load (30 minutes or longer load of prime 95 on all 4 cores or f@h smp client)? What cpu speed are all of these measured at? Do you have measurements from different clock/vcore settings?

45nm quads run fairly hot imo.

Most of the people you have seen so far are fairly competent overclockers. Best case scenario he make pick up 10-12 degrees if he changes airflow and such.

I would say don't worry about it. If it is <70, no biggie.
