OK guys...I'm not sure if you remember, but I posted a while back about the computers in my computer lab...died.

Well, I fixed everything that needed to be fixed...turned on that puppy and uh-oh. The damn power light is blinking on and off--basically it won't POST or boot.

Is this because the chip is fried? Damn, that sounds good--I'll be going to get some KFC and hope there's a response or 2 when I get back.

sorry--that wasn't very clear...

When I pulled the machine, I saw the light blinking on and off--I open it up to see that the HSF was not spinning...I found out that the cpu fan connector on the mobo was some how dead--got a 3pin extension and plugged the fan into the chassis fan plug on the mobo..I believe I also replaced the p/s to a 250W (that could've been another computer though)

If it is a higher speed Coppermine, then it is likely fried. Is it slot 1 or FC-PGA? A Slot 1 has a higher chance of survival due to the much larger heatsink surface area. If there is no airflow at all inside the case (ie nothing useful from the power supply), it's likely to be dead.

I was lucky that I did not fry my CPU when I left my fan unplugged one time. Luckily I had the ASUS Probe software running and the alarm went off because the CPU fan rpm was not detected. The temp on the CPU for those ten minutes reached pretty high temps, so I would assume any extended use would cause damage.

OK...I believe the 2 lab computers that are suffering are Coppermine 550MHz and 600MHz respectively. They have some nasty, generic 250W ps and have the high output Sunon for intake and some generic fan for exhaust (I know--I should probably do something with the exhaust fans but I didn't worry about them at all until now).

So, what do you guys think? Dead? Alive??
